Want straight teeth and a beautiful smile without being called a metal-mouth or brace-face? Invisalign from our Manhattan practice might be an excellent option for you! (We recommend getting better friends, though. Teasing isn’t nice!)

Some benefits of Invisalign over traditional metal braces:

  • Maintain your lifestyle. Going on a date? Having photos taken? Want to eat something sticky and chewy? Removing the Invisalign aligners for an hour or so is no big deal.
  • Brushing and flossing are easy! Just remove the aligners and carry on with your regular oral hygiene routine.
  • Invisalign is fast! In most cases, Invisalign will straighten your teeth faster than metal braces.
  • Invisalign doesn’t damage delicate soft tissues in your mouth as traditional braces do. There is no need for dental wax or numbing gels. Invisalign aligners are smooth, and won’t cut or rub against your gums and the inside of your cheeks.

Case Study

This patient was not happy with the space between their front two teeth but did not want traditional braces. We decided to complete an Invisalign treatment. We were able to completely close the space using this method and create a beautiful smile.

Invisalign won’t work for everyone. If you would like to improve your smile with minimal impact on your daily life, then make an appointment with Dr. Chavez in Manhattan to discuss your options.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign and other types of clear aligners work by gently moving your teeth over time. When you get Invisalign, you’ll get a set of plastic aligners, which you’ll wear for about 20-22 hours per day, and you’ll switch to a new set of aligners about every two weeks.

These aligners are designed to exert gentle pressure on your teeth as you wear them. Over time, this pressure actually changes the position of your teeth, guiding them into the proper position to fix bite problems, crooked teeth, and more. Then, once you switch to a new set of aligners, this process begins again. As you continue your treatment, you will gradually start to see your new, perfectly-straight smile start to take shape.

This is the same basic way that braces work, too. Over time, braces exert pressure on your teeth to change their position and improve your smile. But instead of a set of clear, invisible plastic aligners, braces use a series of metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands that change the position of your teeth. And instead of a quick appointment to pick up a new set of aligners, a dentist must manually adjust your braces to tighten them, and help your teeth move into the proper position.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

The average treatment time for Invisalign is about a year. However, the amount of time that your treatment will take entirely depends on the specifics of your case. For very minor cases, it’s possible to get Invisalign treatment in six months. For more severe orthodontic problems, it may be necessary to keep Invisalign for 12-18 months, or even longer.

Once you start treatment with Invisalign clear aligners, the most important thing you can do is wear your aligners for enough time each day. You must wear your aligners for at least 20 (preferably 22) hours per day for the best possible results. If you are constantly removing your aligners and don’t wear them for long enough each day, your treatment could fall behind.

You also must make sure you switch to a new set of aligners whenever Manhattan dentist Dr. Steven Chavez instructs you to do so. Switching your aligners as directed ensures that your teeth keep moving on schedule, and that your treatment won’t fall behind.

Am I A Good Candidate For Invisalign?

Most patients who have minor to moderate orthodontic problems and have healthy mouths will qualify for treatment with Invisalign clear aligners. Not sure if Invisalign in New York is right for you? The best way to find out is by visiting Blue Line Dental for an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Chavez. He can examine your mouth and determine if Invisalign is right for you. Contact us now to get started.

However, it’s important to note that some patients may not qualify for Invisalign treatment. Serious orthodontic issues like very crooked teeth or severe bite problems may need treatment with traditional braces. Braces are more powerful and versatile than clear aligners, and are a better option for treating complex orthodontic problems.
