Bringing Family Back to NYC Dentistry

Modern dentistry has seen so many great advances, from pain management to prosthetics, but one change that hasn’t necessarily been for the better is how impersonal the field has become. Dr. Steven Chavez is on a mission to bring the “family” back to NYC family dentistry, and he’s starting close to home.

Dr. Chavez doesn’t just run his dental practice in Midtown East, he also lives in that neighborhood. His goal is to create a sense of community comradery by being a part of the community he is serving. He and his wife are raising their family here, and he welcomes other NYC families to visit his dental practice and connect.

Back in the day, families often had one dentist for everyone. Grandma and grandpa went, mom and dad went, and the kids went — for a lifetime! Nowadays, it’s not unusual for the kids to have one dentist and the adults to have another, or for one parent to have one dentist and the other to go to a different practice. Whew! That’s a lot of running around!

The myth that having a zillion choices benefits us makes us feel “okay” about all the extra trips to all the different practices… but is that really what we want when we stop to think about it?
